How hard can it be to answer a question?

How hard can be be to fix a button.

I use typepad’s free blog as my blog host. I pay nothing for this service. Zilch.

I tweeted @typepad and asked “why is typepad mobile unfriendly? Post and preview buttons don’t work on Blackberry mobile or Opera Mini. Wasted effort to type.”

This means that if I want to reply to something one you, dear Readers posted, I can’t do it from mobile, even though I get notification on my mobile by email. The dashboard does not allow replying from the dashboard. It sends me to the page you are reading now. I actually typed a response in Opera Mini - which I hadn't used here before and couldn't post. I can see the post button, but clicking on it has no effect. I thought it would be fixed by now – they’ve been tweaking things and I’ve seen an improvement over the last year. It’s not.

Now get a load of @typepad’s tweet back.

“Improving the mobile experience is one of our goals for 2012.

Stay tuned.” I’m making this a gratitude – I am grateful for a response. It is better than being ignored. Always. But I think we can all agree that this was a non-answer. Not so cool, typepad. Not so cool.

This Blogging Thing

This blogging thing

The nice thing about this blog is that I had decided to use it to track my progress. In so doing I find that it acts as an added incentive to take action – to have something to report. (Interspersed among the introspection are some fun, alternative and interesting things too.;-) )   

Having something to report reminds me of something someone said about keeping a gratitude journal – if you have to write down five things to be grateful for everyday and you don’t want to repeat yourself, you have to pay careful attention to good things that happen daily because you might need to write about it later!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing this because I have a “public to please.” It’s more a case of using this platform as a “spur to prick the sides of my intent*,” or an additional motivation for the times when I hit a slump or find myself procrastinating. This blog serves as a pre-commitment.

An example is the breathing exercises – I almost didn’t do any today until I remembered that I said I would, so I did some! I know that these activities are to help me but it is easy to lose motivation and impetus and slide into bad habits. This report helps to keep me focused on the big picture.  

The success of the blog as a boundary to keep me from straying off track has inspired me to use my coursework journal to do the same. For our studies this year, we are required to keep a journal about the course and reflect critically on the lectures, practicum and relevant issues. I realised that I can also use it as a guide to keep me on track with my studies. To facilitate this, yesterday I listed what I need to do for studies and everyday I will reflect on my progress in the journal. This way I hope to achieve more in this next semester than I did the previous one.

It is good to uncover a strategy that I have applied successfully without knowing it.

Studying hard.

The coursework and studies have increased in intensity. Therefore, in an effort to avoid and prevent the self-sabotage I have blogged less and tried to study more.
